The ' history of a Wikipedia article is a page attached to it to keep all the modifications made to it since its creation. The history page allows to know the date, the author and the exact content of each modification.

Why a history?[edit source]

The history has a legal importance, because it attributes each contribution to its author, according to the license Creative Commons CC BY-NC 3.0.

The history also makes it possible to monitor the evolution of a page and to counter the vandalism. It ensures transparency in the construction of the encyclopedia.

With the exception of the auto-generated pages (a few 'special pages' and the histories themselves), every Wikipedia page (article, discussion, etc.) has its own history.
